SOUTHERN CARAMEL CAKE RECIPE

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour three 9-inch cake pans.

In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.

In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture alternately with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients.

Stir in the vanilla extract. Divide the batter evenly among the prepared pans. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.

Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before removing them from the pans and placing them on wire racks to cool completely.

To make the caramel frosting, melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the brown sugar and milk and bring the mixture to a boil.

Remove from heat and stir in the powdered sugar until smooth. Spread the frosting between the layers and over the top and sides of the cake. Serve and enjoy!
