Fried Green Tomatoes Recipe

Ingredients: 1. 4 green tomatoe 2. 1 cup cornmeal 3. 1/2 cup all-purpose flour 4. 1 teaspoon salt 5. 1/2 teaspoon black pepper 6. 2 egg 7. 1/4 cup milk 8. Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions: 1. Select Firm Green Tomatoes: Choose firm green tomatoes that are slightly underripe for the best results. They should be firm to the touch with a vibrant green color.

Slice the Tomatoes: Slice the tomatoes into 1/4-inch thick rounds. Discard the ends and any blemished areas.

Prepare the Coating: In a shallow bowl, combine the cornmeal, flour, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to ensure the seasonings are evenly distributed.

Beat the Eggs: In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk until well combined. This will create a creamy egg wash that helps the breading adhere to the tomatoes.

Dredge the Tomatoes: Dip each tomato slice into the egg wash, allowing any excess to drip off. Then, coat the tomato slice in the seasoned cornmeal mixture, ensuring it is evenly coated on all sides.

Heat the Oil: In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You'll want enough oil to submerge the tomato slices halfway.

Fry the Tomatoes: Carefully place the coated tomato slices into the hot oil, working in batches to avoid overcrowding the skillet.
