Best Apple Butter Recipe

Ingredients: – 5 lbs (approx. 2.3 kg) of apples (use a mix of sweet and tart varieties like Granny Smith and Honeycrisp) – 1 cup (200 g) of granulated sugar – 1 cup (200 g) of brown sugar – 2 teaspoons (10 ml) of ground cinnamon – 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) of ground nutmeg – 1/4 teaspoon (1.25 ml) of ground clove

Instructions: 1. Peel, core, and chop the apples into small chunks. The smaller the pieces, the quicker they'll cook down.

Transfer the chopped apples to a large pot or Dutch oven. Add lemon juice to prevent browning and enhance flavor.

Stir in both granulated and brown sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt until the apples are evenly coated with the mixture.

Cook the apple mixture over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking, for about 1 to 1.5 hours, or until the apples are soft and mushy.

Once the apples are cooked down and softened, remove the pot from heat and let the mixture cool slightly.

Use an immersion blender or transfer the mixture to a blender in batches to puree until smooth. Be cautious as the mixture will be hot.

Return the pureed mixture to the pot and simmer over low heat for an additional 30-45 minutes, stirring frequently, until the apple butter has thickened to your desired consistency.

Optional: For a smoother texture, pass the apple butter through a fine mesh sieve to remove any remaining chunks.
