Authentic Miso Soup Recipe

Ingredients: – 4 cups dashi (Japanese soup stock) – 3 tablespoons miso paste (white or red) – 1 block tofu, diced – 2 green onions, thinly sliced – 1 sheet nori (seaweed), cut into thin strip – Optional: 1 cup mushrooms (shiitake or enoki), sliced – Optional: 1 cup spinach, chopped

Prepare the Dashi: In a pot, bring 4 cups of water to a simmer. Add dashi granules or dashi packet and stir until dissolved.

Alternatively, you can use homemade dashi stock by soaking kombu (dried kelp) in water overnight and then simmering it for about 10-15 minutes. Strain the liquid to remove any solids.

Add Tofu and Vegetables: Once the dashi is ready, add diced tofu and any optional vegetables you're using, such as mushrooms or spinach.

Dissolve Miso Paste: In a small bowl, place the miso paste. Add a ladleful of hot dashi from the pot into the bowl with miso paste. U

Incorporate Miso Paste: Turn the heat down to low. Gradually pour the dissolved miso paste back into the pot of simmering dashi, stirring gently to incorporate.

Garnish: Turn off the heat. Add thinly sliced green onions and nori strips into the soup. These toppings not only enhance the flavor but also add visual appeal to your miso soup.

Taste and Adjust: Give the soup a taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary. You can add more miso paste for a stronger flavor or more water if it's too salty.

Serve: Ladle the hot miso soup into serving bowls and serve immediately. Enjoy the comforting warmth and rich umami flavors of this authentic miso soup!
